Oxford in Chelles – 5ème Edition, Easter 2019 (Day 2)

It’s day two of camp and students are thrilled to get back into the swing of things. With the Otters currently leading in the competition, everyone is eager to get started and participate in today’s activities.

The faces of eager learners re-enter the campsite in full anticipation of today’s activities.
Little Oceane wishing her fellow camper good luck in the competition.

We’re convinced that students learn better when they enjoy it. It is on this basis that we include activities such as card games that will allow them to use the English language in a repetitive nature that really enables them to master the language presented.

Students are quite focused while playing a game of London Snap. Students learn about cultural iconic images of London such as The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Beefeaters etc.
This game is also ideal for learning the history of England. Students learn about well-known monuments such as Big Ben, the history behind the Nelson Column in Trafalgar Square, some facts about the Buckingham palace and other historical events.

While some students spent the first part of their morning delving into the history of England, others were involved in creating their artistic pieces, string Easter Baskets.

Group 1’s instructor – Pippa, assisted by manager Fredsal both helping students with the first phase of their Easter basket art projects.
What a stimulating activity for students to learn new words such as: pasting, turning, cutting etc.

With sports being an integral part of Jack n’ Jill’s curriculum students get the chance to participate in physical activity while still learning the language. This edition of camp we decided to introduce a popular American sport called Kickball.

Group 8’s instructor Ms. Elsa, explaining the rules of the game to her students. She also elicits language from them such as: homerun, kicker, pitcher, running, bases etc.
Bilal going in to kick the ball with his right foot.

We believe that one of the most effective ways to learn a language is through music. This year, students are learning the lyrics to a beautiful song called « You Raise Me Up ». Additionally they’re learning the Jack n’ Jill anthem and the « Dynamite Round ».

Instructor Ms. Erin accompanied by Ms. Elsa teaching students the songs. Students learn a wealth of figurative language through this activity.

To end the day we wish a « Happy Birthday » to another one of our bright campers.

Little Matt is rather happy when presented with a birthday cake presented by the Director and one of the Managers of the camp.

Another great day of learning and fun!

See you tomorrow for more!
